The Hermit

It is one of the most important sites of Franciscan spirituality.
The convent was built in the 13th century on the place where there was already a Benedictine romitory chosen by St. Francis to retire in prayer.
Tradition wants that here the Poverello d'Assisi, inspired by the places, composed the "Exhortatio ad laudem Dei", a composition that anticipates the most famous "Canti delle Creature".
The complex consists of a church and a convent.
Not far is the so-called "San Francesco Cave", a place loved by the Saint to meditate in solitude.
