It was erected in Sant'Erasmo perhaps in the 11th century on the place where there was already a place ammunited since ancient times.
A system of towers are visible along the rocky rib at least two of the towers erected in the 11th century and strengthened in the 13th century, while of those built in the direction of the Martani mountains are seen little traces - it ensured the defense and control of the territory. The pentagonal tower constituted the mastio of the stronghold. The towers were connected to a wall curtain that descended from Sant'Erasmo until the village was incorporated. The point of conjunction was Porta Todi which still retains the function of structure of connection to the defensive belt.
This was the center of that power that made the town of Cesi the capital of the Terre Amolfe. The walls surrounding Cesi are those erected between the '300 and the '500. Along these, at sundial, Porta Ternana opens. A missing door was at Sant'Angelo.
